Donate Your Car or Truck to The Connection Fund
Is your beloved automobile ready for retirement?  It's been good to you, so let it now benefit children and adults in need served by The Connection.  We'll arrange to pick your car or truck up at no charge to you, sell it quickly at a highly reputable in-state auction, and provide proper documentation for your tax deduction.  We prefer vehicles in good, operable condition with clean titles, but we will gladly accept cars or trucks in any mechanical or physical shape.  Typically, the entire process takes only a few weeks to complete. 

Current IRS regulations have simplified the process of determining the value of your car of truck.  You may deduct the full price that we receive for the sale of your vehicle at the auction.  The IRS allows taxpayers to claim a tax deduction of:

a) the fair market value of your vehicle up to $500 (refer to Kelley Blue Book online); or

b) the exact amount for which the vehicle sold if the sale is more than $500.  We will mail you notification stating the exact selling amount.  If you claim a deduction on your federal tax return of more than $500 for all contributed property, you must attach IRS Form 8283 - Noncash Charitable Contributions to your return. If you claim a total deduction of $5,000 or less for all contributed property, you need to complete only Section A of Form 8283.  If you claim a deduction of more than $5,000 for an item or group of similar items, you need to complete Section B of Form 8283, which requires an appraisal by a qualified appraiser.

Ready to Proceed?

Once you've decided to donate your vehicle to The Connection Fund, simply complete our online pick up form or contact Claire Bien at 860.343.5500, or cbien@theconnectioninc.org.  We'll contact you in 2-3 business days to arrange for free pick up of your vehicle within one week.  The vehicle will likely be auctioned off the following week.  Then, we'll promptly mail you written notification with supporting documentation from the auction site of the selling price for your tax deduction.

I donated my car to The Connection Fund and the process was easy.  The car was picked up two days after I spoke with the office.  It sold next week, and I had my tax papers the following week.  I dreaded selling my car, so this was a nice option.
